David Deacon

David Deacon returns with his latest album Good Day Good Night and new single “Soldiers of the Universe.”

Celebrated blues singer-songwriter David Deacon, following the success of his early 2023 album Four, is back with a remarkable new collection of recordings on Good Day Good Night. This album is a rich exploration of a wide range of emotions, delivering Deacon's signature bluesy, gutsy guitar-driven sound that his fans have come to adore.

Leading the way with the album's poignant first single, "Soldiers of the Universe," Deacon sets a tone that is as introspective as it is transcendent. The track starts with a probing question and gradually evolves into a self-contained answer. Its message is punctuated with a chorus that is both meditational and existential, conveying the powerful sentiment, "choose not to feel harmed and you cannot be harmed."

"Soldiers of the Universe" showcases Deacon's exceptional song writing and his band's musical prowess. With Andy Ryan's opening guitar work, the song begins with a hint of Caribbean rhythms before delving into a chorus that resonates on a deeply spiritual level. The supporting vocalists tastefully enhance the song, and the guitar solo is nothing short of sublime. The track's transformation from questioning to answering is a journey through cool, soothing sounds.

The album's focus track, "And They All Sang Along," is a mesmerizing journey from nostalgia to a heartwarming and whimsical recollection. The composition features subtly blended sounds of hand claps and background harmonies, creating a vivid image of friends standing together, singing, and harmonizing. Deacon's music has always held the power to take listeners on a reflective, thought-provoking journey, and Good Day Good Night is no exception.

This release follows Deacon's impressive career that has spanned decades and traversed various creative endeavors. Deacon is a towering figure in the world of music, standing at 6'5", and his voice is a force of nature. His style is a blend of bluesy, old-school rock and heartfelt ballads that delve deep into the human psyche, exploring the experiences of a seasoned traveler and the people who have crossed his path.

Deacon's life is a testament to his multifaceted talents. He has explored poetry, song writing, painting, pen and ink drawings, and more, all while maintaining a passion for adventure and taking calculated risks. His journey led him from leaving university to pursue art studies in Paris to becoming a successful race car driver, businessman, and advertising executive. David Deacon's life is a story of constant evolution and unwavering pursuit of his passions.

In the '90s, David recorded and released three albums, becoming a fixture at The Rex in Toronto with nearly a seven-year residency. He also performed regularly in cities like Toronto, Buffalo, Rochester, Ottawa, Peterborough, and Kingston. Beyond his artistic endeavors, David's deep interest in motorcycle and car racing led to remarkable achievements, including winning the Canadian endurance racing championship in a Porsche RSR and racing for the BMW factory team at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Today, Deacon is back with a new musical chapter with the release of two albums in one year with Good Day Good Night being a follow-up to his earlier success with his album Four. This album features ten diverse and emotionally resonant tracks, covering a wide spectrum of experiences.

"The songs 'Poetry' and 'Hard Time' are bookends to the same relationship. Probably no more needs to be said that isn’t said in the songs themselves," reflects Deacon.

The album's first single, "Arc of Life," released on March 24th, is a moving, non-secular composition suitable for memorial services. It emphasizes the belief that one's actions define who they are and that what we do is the most accurate reflection of our true selves.

"California Has No Winter" is another standout track, celebrating the beauty that emerges with age, much like a stunning sunset. Deacon's perspective is clear -- there is profound value in people and things with history and experience, a message that is sometimes overlooked in a world obsessed with youth and superficial beauty.

Four was released on May 12th, 2023, through Slammin Media and distributed by Believe Distribution. In a world that often disregards the beauty of age and experience, Deacon's new album challenges the status quo and encourages listeners to appreciate the depth of character and artistry that emerges over time.

Good Day Good Night caps off an ambitious multi-album year. One distinctive feature of Deacon's song writing is his propensity to take unconventional paths. He weaves his narratives through subtle and profound layers that provoke introspection and Good Day Good Night continues this tradition.

Brooklyn Blues Duo Baker and Cas Channel the Spirit of Classic Rock 'n' Roll with Their Latest Single 'My Sug'

Rock music has its roots in blues music, especially blues guitarists like Lead Belly and Memphis Minnie. Given how rock music has evolved over the years into many different subgenres, it is a surprise to see a modern song evoke the spirit of classic rock n' roll. This is the case with Brooklyn blues duo Baker and Cas' newest single "My Sug".

Featuring guitar and vocals by Emmanuel Casablanca, the song immediately hooks the listener with its harmonica and chug-a-chug rock rhythm that defined early rock and roll songs like Chuck Berry's "Roll Over Beethoven". The first and second verses of the song are as catchy as the rhythm.

"My sugar don’t like it when I walk in the door too late
My sugar don't like it when I walk in the door too late
Sug don’t got to say a word, I can tell by looking at her face."

Speaking of Chuck Berry, it is his spirit that Casablanca evokes in a fabulous guitar solo that takes place after the second verse. He keeps up this momentum for the rest of the song, as he smoothly continues the chug-a-chug rhythm.

Through classic rock n' roll, Casablanca wrote an upbeat song inspired by love. He states, "My Sug was tasked to be based on positive outlooks of our relationship, or rather just regular relationship milestones."

Emmanuel Casablanca is multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, painter, and actor and released his debut LP, Blood on My Hands, in August 2022. The album featured many notable musicians including, Grammy Nominated musician Eric Gales, world renowned guitarist Paul Gilbert, and Blues Music Award Winner Albert Castiglia.

Additionally, Casablanca has worked with an array of A-list performers over the course of his career, among them such luminaries as bassist and producer Bill Laswell, drummer Daxx Nielsen, and bassist Doug Wimbish of the Grammy-winning band Living Colour. His sophomore album, Strung Out on Thrills, with a planned release date of January 2024, is currently underway.

Signed under Sony Music with Bad Jeu Jeu Records, Kelli Baker brings a song like no other. Known in some circles as “The Phoenix”, Kelli was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona.
Her show-stopping track, “Blood on the Nile” was met with critical acclaim, landing on Spotify’s coveted editorial playlist, “Blues Roots”, receiving commercial airplay, and a headlining feature in Guitar Girl Magazine.

Now performing with The Kelli Baker Band, she appears consistently at iconic music houses such as NYC’s The Bitter End, taking the stage at The Cutting Room, Rockwood Music Hall, and some of New York’s most discerning venues. The Kelli Baker Band is booked nationwide throughout 2023.

Meeting at the “Road to Memphis” Blues Challenge in 2022, Kelli Baker and Emanuel Casablanca knew immediately they were a musical match. Both featuring powerhouse vocals, commanding stage presence, and stylistic swagger, they conspired to work together on what would eventually manifest into Baker & Cas, “Hooligans”, an album due out October 2023.

Mark Easton

Mark Easton tackles all instruments and lead vocals by himself, with an emphasis on a guitar sound. The only assistance being from two occasional background vocalists. There is really nothing here approaching blues-rock, things are more in a rock vein. He blends electric and acoustic guitars to great effect. The drumming is pretty rudimentary but is just right for the music.

Indian tom-toms lead into what else but “Indian Summer”. An infectious beat is laid down by acoustic guitar. He contributes some nicely wailing harmonica. Loud guitar rock powers the self explanatory “Your Driving’s Driving Me Crazy”. He describes the foibles of bad drivers in a hoarse vocal delivery. “Rumour Has It” gets its’ kick off by driving drums. More intense harmonica over acoustic slide guitar.

“It’s Never Going To Be The Same” goes back and forth from slow acoustic guitar to heavy electric guitar. It’s a bit of a heavy metal ballad. The narrator tells of his dream of a H-bomb dropping and he’s the only man left among “13 Women”. He runs down a litany of bad manors on “I Don’t Hate You, I Just Hate Everything You Do” to the accompaniment of Led Zeppelin style ringing acoustic guitar.

“Highland Fling” contains a tricky electric guitar figure. The world situation is bandied about on the title track “Free Yourself”. More of the same is the subject of “Digging Your Own Grave”. The Foghat treatment with traded off guitar lines is given to “I Just Want To Make Love To You”. Mark rocks out in grand style with the backing vocalists along for the guitar ride.

Mark has managed quite effectively to become his own rock band. He has the ensemble sound down to a tee complete with a driving beat. This CD is a virtual Garden Of Eden for lovers of the classic rockers of the seventies. Mark makes it all sound so seamless. Rock on!

Dave Peabody

British folk-blues musician Dave Peabody is one part blues scholar, one part producer, one part photographer and one part singer/songwriter. Some of his greatest performances in the U.S. have been at folk festivals, with accompaniment from his longtime collaborator, blues and boogie-woogie pianist Bob HallHall played with one of the early versions of Savoy BrownPeter GreenMick Fleetwood, T.S. McPhee, the De Luxe Blues Band, and Dave and Jo-Ann Kelly, and has appeared on more than 60 albums. Peabody sings and plays guitar in a variety of acoustic blues styles, including bottleneck slide and fingerpicking. He has also recorded with a group called Tight Like That, and he appears on half a dozen albums as a harmonica player with British blues groups like Last Train South, as well as American harmonica ace Charlie Musselwhite and Cincinnati pianist Big Joe Duskin

Peabody has released five albums under his own name and tours the U.S. infrequently; he concentrates his solo touring efforts, on which he accompanies himself on guitar and harmonica, in England, Scotland and Ireland. Peabody's albums, which may be available through import, include Peabody Hotel, a 1973 release for Village Thing Records; Keep It Clean, a 1974 album for Matchbox Records; Come and Get It, a 1976 album, also for Matchbox; Blues In Brussels, 1977, CL Records; Payday, 1979, Waterfront Records; and Americana, 1987, also for Waterfront Records. Teague Stefan Band

As one of Central Florida’s hardest working musical acts, the three-piece Teague Stefan Band combine elements of blues, rock and funk to create a solid wall of electric guitar-driven sound that can be described as complex, aggressive and pounding: a full-bodied style that gives a subtle nod to power trios of the 70’s and artists from Hendrix to Stevie Wonder that remains refreshingly original and, above all, crowd pleasing.

The band’s repertoire includes their second full-length studio album Game Of Life, in which Teague Stefan, the songwriter, vocalist and guitarist for his eponymous three piece group, employs his talents in musicianship and composition. Stefan shows his range on the album, a textured, well-flowing arrangement of numbers such as the bluesy, soulful 'Power Of A Woman', the funky, heavy 'No Matter What' and the blistering 'One More Night'. There is no post-production trickery employed here; Stefan’s guitar is just as, if not more, intricately fiery during the band’s live shows as it sounds on the album.

Indeed, the Teague Stefan Band is at home on stage, delivering with each live performance. Supporting Stefan are bassist Todd Warsing and drummer Dave Marder, accomplished and professional musicians who provide the firm rhythmic foundation for Stefan’s blazing guitar. The members of the band are perfectly synchronized, effortlessly meshing thanks to numerous shows and countless hours of practice. The group has appeared at the Orange Blossom Blues Society show at Hard Rock Universal, twice at George’s Music Springing the Blues, the Lakeridge Winery Blues Festival and at the Orlando Magic Family Day at the Amway Arena. The band continues to perform frequently at various local clubs and bars in the Central Florida area.

Stefan, who has played guitar since the age of seventeen, lists his major influences as Jimi Hendrix, Freddie King, Albert Collins, Stevie Wonder and Steely Dan. He has created his own brand of music that cannot be confined to either blues or rock, as it contains aspects of both (along with funk).

But ultimately the Teague Stefan Band defies an accurate description; seeing the band perform live is perhaps the only way to truly experience their raw, untapped talent. Stefan, Marder and Warsing are entertaining to say the least, with vibrant stage presence that exudes energy and charisma, but these are serious musicians; frontman Stefan exhibits complete control over his guitar, handling even the fastest of songs with effortless precision, flooding the stage with his original, jaw-dropping sound that one must experience live to truly comprehend.

Wes Jeans

Micheal Wesley Jeans was born in the heart of East Texas on January 13, 1981, only fifteen minutes from where legendary Freddie King was born. Wes grew up in a musically-enriched family and showed an interest in performing at a young age. But it wasn't until the age of fifteen that Wes chose his path. He found an old three-string guitar in his closet andbegan learning the beginning riff of "Sunshine of Your Love." Wes' natural ability to learn music by ear and his relentless passion for playing caused an explosion of talent that most beginners only dream of.
In 1996, after only playing nine months, Wes entered the International Jimi Hendrix Competition held in Austin, TX and placed an amazing second among fifteen hundred otheryoung guitar players. Special guest Al Hendrix, father of Jimi Hendrix, told Wes "In my eyes, you won because you played straight from the heart like Jimi!" The dream of playing music for a living, moral support from his family and friends, and the ever-encouraging words of Al Hendrix set this Texas tornado in motion. Soon, Wes was playing area venues and festivals, attracting booking agents and record labels.
In 1999, Wes signed a record contract with Ice House Records of Memphis, Tennessee and began work on his debut album HANDS ON (pictured above). Wes recruited Al Green's bass player and drummer, John Williams and Lloyd Anderson, as well as Albert King's former B-3 player, Gregg Redding, to record at Sam Phillips studio. After being mastered at legendary Ardent Studio, HANDS ON was released in the summer of 2000. It became the highest pre-sale of any Ice House release and reached ..26 on the National Blues Sales Chart. Along with Wes' growing popularity came the demand for new releases. In response, in 2004, Wes and long-time friend and bassist, Syd Hydro, along with drummer Adam Hagerman, recorded a four-song demo (pictured below) at Night Song Studio in Knoxville, TN. The success of the independently-released demo fueled the group to film a live DVD. So, on New Years Day 2005, Wes and his band recorded LIVE AT JUANITAS DVD (pictured below) in Little Rock, Arkansas. This raw footage of Texas style Blues and Jimi Hendrix flare quickly became Wes' number one seller.
Throughout his career, Wes has had the honor of meeting and sharing the stage with many musical greats such as B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Jimmie Vaughan, Billy Gibbons, Dick Dale, Eric Johnson, Hubert Sumlin, Lynryd Skynyrd, Robert Cray, Joe Bonamassa, Indigenous, Lance Lopez, Chris Duarte, and Kenny Wayne Shepherd, just to name of few. After the October 2003 show opening for B.B. King in Shreveport, Louisiana, Wes' performance received a standing ovation and B.B. asked Wes onto his bus where he told him "Son, you keep your head on straight, you are going places."
Not only has he earned the respect of his peers, he has perked the ears of the media and has been featured by many newspapers, magazines and radio stations throughout the country and Canada. When a poll was done by Guitar Player Magazine in late 2003, readers voted Wes number three among the Young Gun Guitar Players in the nation between Jonny Lang and Kenny Wayne Shepherd(GUITAR PLAYER March 2004). In early September 2005, Wes performed and interviewed for a feature-length documentary that focuses on the guitars musicians have preferred over the past fifty years, Fender and Gibson. This Lightning Lab Production was filmed in the Historic Memphis Brewery and is scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2006.
Wes' unrelenting talent and genuine down-to-earth demeanor have won him the favor of many wonderful people, sponsors and endorsements. He continues to gain the admiration of his audience on and off stage. Adding on sponsorships that include GHS Stings, Rivera Amplifiers, Robin Guitars, Svetlana tubes, optic-case, and Seymour Duncan pick-ups. In October 2005, Wes' custom cabinet "The Beast," designed by Wes in conjunction with Mills Acoustics, is to be unveiled in Arlington, Texas at the Annual Stevie Ray Vaughan Remembrance Ride.
In June 2006 Wes released his 2nd studio album "Forest Of The Pine" under Texas Music Records. The album was produced by fellow axe-slayer Lance Lopez and is nothing short of blues/rock perfection. The record showcases Wes' amazing blues guitar prowess and guest stars Memphis' Eric Gales. Wes has followed the album release with touring playing shows with such notables as Eric Johnson, Robert Cray, David Lee Roth, and Indiginous. In August 06' XM Radio-Bluesville picked up "Forest Of The Pine" and has kept it in regular rotation on Stone Blue. Bluesville's Aaron Lee has this to say about "F.O.P"…"This cd kicked my ass! Its one of the best blues/rock cds of 2006!"-Aaron Lee.
In January of 2007 "Forest Of The Pine" climbed its way up to the 3rd position on the German Blues Charts.
Wes Jeans is a "true to the Blues" Texas star.

Billy Boy Arnold

Born in Chicago, Illinois, as one of 16 children, he began playing harmonica as a child, and in 1948 received informal lessons from his near neighbour John Lee "Sonny Boy" Williamson, shortly before the latter's death. Arnold made his recording debut in 1952 with "Hello Stranger" on the small Cool label, the record company giving him the nickname "Billy Boy".

In the early 1950s, he joined forces with street musician Bo Diddley and played harmonica on the March 2, 1955 recording of the Bo Diddley song "I'm a Man" released by Checker Records. The same day as the Bo Diddley sessions, Billy Boy recorded the self-penned "You Got to Love Me" which was not released until the box set Chess Blues 1947–1967 in 1992.
Arnold signed a solo recording contract with Vee-Jay Records, recording the originals of "I Wish You Would" and "I Ain’t Got You". Both were later covered by the Yardbirds. "I Wish You Would" was also recorded by David Bowie on his 1973 album Pin Ups and by Sweet on their 1982 album, Identity Crisis.

In the late 1950s Arnold continued to play in Chicago clubs and in 1963 he recorded an LP, More Blues From The South Side, for the Prestige label, but as playing opportunities dried up he pursued a parallel career as a bus driver and, later parole officer.

By the 1970s, Arnold had begun playing festivals, touring Europe and recording again, including as part of the American Blues Legends '75 package organised by Big Bear Music. He recorded a session for BBC Radio 1 disc jockey John Peel on October 5, 1977. He also recorded in 1979 the tracks that later became the Catfish album of 1999, in London with Tony McPhee and the Groundhogs.

In 1993, he released the album Back Where I Belong on Alligator Records, followed by Eldorado Cadillac (1995) and on Stony Plain Records with the Duke Robillard Band Boogie ’n’ Shuffle (2001). In 2012, Arnold released Blue and Lonesome featuring Tony McPhee and the Groundhogs. Another tribute to Sonny Boy was the album The Blues Soul of Billy Boy Arnold (Stony Plain - SPCD 1378, 2014).
In 2014, he was nominated for a Blues Music Award in the "Traditional Blues Male Artist of the Year" category.

In November 2021, the University of Chicago Press published Billy Boy Arnold's first-person memoir, "The Blues Dream of Billy Boy Arnold," written in collaboration with Kim Field.
His younger brother is bassist Jerome Arnold, with whom he has recorded.

JJ Cale

In some neighborhoods of the city of rock there is a lot of passion for marketing, for spectacular decoration, for the search for fame and notoriety. But there are black and white corners, more human and close, where you find excellent musicians who tie themselves to the masts of the ship like Ulysses to escape the seductive song of the sirens. Without a doubt, one of them is JJ Cale.

Guitarist and sound engineer almost at the same time (among his pleasures was modifying all the guitars he played with, from the Danelectro to the Stratocaster), his beginnings were not particularly successful, to the point of abandoning his nascent musical career. His luck changed with Eric Clapton's version of After Midnight, his first single, which had gone practically unnoticed. Riding on that stroke of luck, Cale would publish his first LP, Naturally (1972), in which we find his hallmarks, a peculiar symbiosis of country, blues and North American folk, performed by a warm and soft, whispering and earthy voice, and a way of playing the guitar as seemingly simple as it is brilliant, elements that form an intimate and misty atmosphere. That album would include his biggest hit, Crazy Mama, which would reach number 22 on the Billboard chart, and the wonderful Call Me The Breeze.

His work is also characterized by the regularity in the release of his albums. Thus, Really (1973), Okuie (1974) and probably one of his best creations, Troubador (1976), which contains one of the best songs of all time, Cocaine, follow one another. Once again Clapton made it a success, to the point that for a long time he would be identified with it, although from my point of view the original is far superior to the version of "Mano Lenta", with the irresistible attraction that that generates. such a characteristic way of “plucking” the guitar.

Another of his most characteristic features is his aversion to the control of record companies. Without noise, with few appearances in the press, and very little predisposed to excessively long tours, Cale's work nevertheless flows quite fluidly, already endowed with an unmistakable and magnetic style, which attracts, above all, contemporary musicians. Thus, the 80's and 90's are adorned with such magnificent albums as 5 (1979), Shades (1981), Grasshopper (1982), #8 (1983), Travel-Log (1990), Number 10 (1992), Closer to You (1994), and Guitar Man (1996). Some small samples: Don't Cry Sister, by 5, and Carry On, by Shades.

Precisely that year, 1996, marks a breaking point and discographic silence that will not be broken until 2004, with the appearance of To Tulsa And Back. By then, Cale was already a rock legend, a circumstance that would be reinforced with his concert at the 2006 Crossroads festival (organized by Eric Clapton), the publication of the documentary To Tulsa And Back: On Tour With J. J. Cale, and the recording in 2006 with Eric Clapton of The Road To Escondido, which received great praise from both critics and the public, winning the Grammy for best contemporary blues album. Always surrounded by excellent musicians, we cannot fail to highlight the magnificent collaboration with Billy Preston on the Hammond organ, as can be seen in Hard to Thrill.

In 2009, with the collaboration of Clapton, he released what would be his last album, Roll On.
On July 26, 2013, at age 74, JJ Cale died of a heart attack. A musician who did not need to shout to spread his teaching (my idolized Neil Young said that Cale and Hendrix were the best guitarists he had ever seen, not counting the obvious influence on Mark Knopfler or Eric Clapton), nor use pyrotechnics bathed in souffle. Honest, creative, in favor of pure sound without pretentious overdub, but who did not disdain to perfect the sound with technological advances. And yet he has tiptoed through the rock showcase, without ostentatious neon to announce his name, nor complacent hagiographies, nor masses eager to devour his music. A vital and essential musician, at least for the one who writes this, anchored in simplicity, elegance and talent.
